The Business Journey of
Nikos Vasiliou

1946

Nikos Vasiliou, originally from the village of Mitsero in the Nicosia district, began his career with determination and ambition, aiming to establish a successful business.

After completing his studies, he worked in a store specialising in furniture hardware components, gaining his first experience in the business sector.

Later, he was hired by a bank, but he did not stay there long, as his desire to become an entrepreneur led him back to the furniture hardware industry.

His first major step in his business journey came when he partnered with an associate, opening their own business.

Initially, they sourced goods from the local market, but over time, the business began to develop its own identity.

In 1962, Nikos decided to continue his business activity independently, founding the company Nikos Vasileiou Vapsis. With the support of his wife, Amalia, he opened a store on Kykkos Street, a side street off Ledra Street. With vision and determination, he managed to expand his business, and in 1963, he moved to a larger store at 8 Areos Street.

At the same time, he started importing products from Europe, collaborating with countries such as Britain, Italy, France, Germany, and Spain. His business trips to these countries helped build a strong network of partnerships, strengthening his company’s competitiveness.

The Turkish invasion of 1974 was a severe blow, as his warehouse on Kykkos Street was destroyed by fire. Despite the challenges, Nikos managed to save part of the goods and continue his operations, temporarily using a space in the village of Mitsero.

Later, he purchased the store at 8 Areos Street and acquired two plots of land for parking spaces, establishing a more structured business foundation.

His business grew even further with the involvement of his children. Michalis and Vassos, as the new owners, expanded the company with new warehouses in Latsia and stores in strategic locations, with significant support from Anna, who actively contributed to the success of the family business.

Through hard work and dedication, the company continued to grow, supplying both wholesale and retail products throughout Cyprus, while also acquiring its own facilities in Latsia.

Today, Nikos’s grandchildren, Irene and Nicolas, have taken on active roles in running the company, ensuring its continuous growth and success.
